Tips of the Week

WINTER SEASON

This is the vata time of year: cold, blustery, dry. Vata is one of the three main constitutions according to Ayurvedic medicine (the others being kapha and pitta), called doshas. Not only are we influenced by our individual doshic balance—the unique blend of doshas called prakriti—we are also affected by the dosha of the season. Working with this seasonal energy is a smart way to fortify your health and feel your best no matter what the time of year.

So, when the wind is blowing through leafless trees and the air stings like dry ice, take heed. Stay warm, hydrated, rested, and grounded. Adjusting your yoga practice, diet, sleeping habits, and skin care toward these goals can all help you feel balanced and buoyant all winter long.
