Male Impotence

Impotence is the failure of a man to achieve or maintain an erection, and is more common in older men. Sometimes this term 'impotence' is also used when a man can have an erection but cannot ejaculate semen.

Modern sciences have defined impotence as an inability to perform the sexual act, because of either a failure to initiate or sustain an erection or a failure to ejaculate intra-vaginally.

Types of Impotence

  • Arteriogenic - Where the arteries supplying blood to the penis do not bring in enough blood to cause an erection.
  • Venogenic - Where the veins of the penis leak blood and prevent the development of a rigid erection.
  • Neurogenic - Many things can go wrong with the nerve supply to the penis. Injuries to the back, especially if they involve the vertebral column and the spinal cord can cause impotence.
  • Endocrinologic - This occurs when there is an imbalance or insufficiency of sex hormones in the blood stream.
  • Psychogenic - When there is no organic factor and the problem lies purely in the mind, it is labeled a case of psychogenic impotence.

Ayurvedic treatments and tips for male Impotence

  • Consuming garlic is one of the best ways to treat sexual impotence. Chew two to three cloves of raw garlic, on a daily basis. In fact, you should include garlic in your regular diet.
  • Garlic cloves (5 to 6) should be crushed having removed the outer coverings and added to a glass of milk, boiled and reduced to ½ glass. Then it should be filtered, required sugar should be added and taken twice a day in two equal doses.
  • Onion is another very good vegetable to treat sexual impotence. It increases libido and strengthens reproducing organs. White onions are best for this purpose.
  • Black raisins are also useful.
  • Ashwagandharishta 1 to 2 ounces twice daily after meals with equal quantity of water is a useful Ayurvedic tip.
